ABOUT THE SCHOOL

"Our primary goal is to help students break out of the cycle of poverty they are born into. Even just having a basic knowledge of English will be extremely helpful for them to obtain employment."
- Hans Eide, School Founder

Founded in April 2004 by Foster City, CA resident Hans Eide, the Rotary Elementary School of Mongkol Borei provides a basic education aimed at reaching Cambodia's poorest youth.

After having been both touched by the genuine kindness of the locals and yet unsettled by the widespread poverty suffered in the aftermath of the Vietnam War and Khmer Rouge era, Hans led efforts to turn an underutilized building into a thriving school in a region where education in neither compulsory nor affordable.

Having just completed our fifth year, we have 248 students in grades one through five, with a curriculum emphasizing English, Khmer, math, science, social studies, and some Chinese.
