How are students selected to attend?
The only criterion is that the student is confirmed to be too poor to attend public school. This is determined by a teacher's visit to the family home.
How many students are enrolled so far?
As of July 2008 enrollment was at 248 students with an expected 50 to be added each year until we reach a total of approximately 500 students over nine grades. Some of our third and fourth graders are 16 to 18 years old proving that without our school ,they would have no access to education at all.
How are the contributions distributed?
The funds are channeled through the Foster City Rotary Foundation in Northern California, which makes it a fully tax-deductible donation. A wire is sent every two or three months to a local Cambodian bank tightly controlled internally and ultimately accountable to the schools founder, Hans Eide, who visits the school three to four times a year.
Where is Mongkol Borei?
Mongkol Borei is located in the Northwestern region of Cambodia in the Banteay Meanchey Province, about 15 miles from the border of Thailand.
